On July 12, 2022, the Institute of Eastern Europe and Central Asia conducted a webinar on "Academic life during the Russian war in Ukraine." The event's objective was to highlight the current state of science and education in Ukraine in the context of a full-scale, unprovoked war by the Russian Federation against Ukraine. Keynote speakers from Ukraine presented their views on research activities and the main problems and challenges that occurred due to the Russian invasion. The discussion was led by:

  1. Dr. Inna Neskorodieva, V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University of School of Business in Ukraine 
  2. Dr. Hanna Shvindina, American University Kyiv and Sumy State University, Ukraine 
  3. Dr. Viktoriya Onegina, State Biotechnological University, Kharkiv, Ukraine 
  4. Dr. Mykola Durman, Kherson National Technical University, Ukraine 

In their presentations, Ukrainian scientists spoke about work and life challenges during the first days of military aggression. In the Q&A session, participants from universities in the USA, Kyrgyzstan, Poland, Georgia, Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, and Hungary expressed their views on supporting Ukrainian scientists in this challenging time.

In conclusion, Dr. Mykola Megits, the Institute IEECA President, thanked the participants and assured them that the international scientific community is looking for ways to support Ukrainian scientists and students and will direct all its efforts to help Ukrainian academicians.
